The Ever Lucid Lisa...

It only makes sense that Friends on Books for youth, should be run by a youth, right?

Well, that's me! I'm the kid who sits at the front of the class with my nose in a book. I'm the kid who would rather spend my Saturday in a library than out with my friends (well, that's starting to balance out). I'm the kid who can quote random lines from nearly every book I've read. I'm the kid who counts down the days until my favorite books come out. I'm the kid who always thinks the "books are better than the movies".

And yes, I was the kid who read every single book on the shelf on the first day of kindergarten...

Aside from reading, I love-love-love my friends, the teeny magic box that normal people call an mp3 player, and singing (extra loudly) in the shower. I spend most of my time writing, sleeping and studying. Go AcDec!

Of course, I would be absolutely (and I mean it) nowhere without my family, especially my mom, since she actually initiated this site for me, then threw me out of my cybernest and said "Fly!" Otherwise, it might have taken nearly forever to turn concept into reality. Not to mention, she's the greatest cook I know (most definitely a bonus).

Oh yeah, I should probably mention that I'm also the kid who loves getting to know people almost as much as reading. So, once again, go ahead and grab a seat, whip out your keyboard and tell me why your favorite book is undoubtedly better than mine...

This book reminded me why I usually don't browse the "teen" section of libraries or book stores. The plot and premise of this book was unique, but I was a little iffy about the content. However, the book gives good insight on feelings of people with physical disabilities.

Verdict:

I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone younger than late teens.

Tiptop Tips!

1. Always have a notepad close by and write down any thoughts that occur to you while reading. This especially helps with class assignments and remembering that, yes, your mom's birthday is indeed tomorrow.
2. Do not read when tired. You are less likely to remember what you read.
3. Don't forget to take a break every once in a while. Many books are easier to read in small doses.
4. If it's hard to concentrate on a book, try playing music quietly in the background. It may seem more distracting now, but if played at the right volume, it's fairly effective at blocking out other more imposing noises.
5. If time allows, read a book twice. Even a quick skim will give one's memory a much-needed boost.
6. Imagine each chapter as a story of its own - the novel won't seem so long.
7. Is the book getting boring? Try reading aloud. How can you not be entertained by the sound of your own voice?
8. It is almost always easier to read in your pajamas.
9. Mix it up. Books of various genres won't make your favorites seem so predictable.
10. No matter how much you want to believe you have night vision, odds are, you don't. Always read with proper lighting.
11. Read to little kids! It might not seem appealing right at this moment, but someday, you'll be able to look back on your life and say, "Well, I wasn't so much of a failure..."
12. Don't read anything your audience (whether it's you or someone else) won't understand. Otherwise, your efforts will just be a waste of time. We can't have that, can we?
